Kaohsiung, a fast-growing MEGACITY of Taiwan

Kaohsiung is one of the special municipalities under the adminstrstion of Taiwan. It is located in southern-western Taiwan and facing the Taiwan Strait.Kaohsiung has grown from a small trading village, into the political, economic, transportation, manufacturing, refining, shipbuilding, and industries centers of southern Taiwan. It is a global city with sufficiency as categorized by GaWC in 2010.

Today as a major international port and industrial city in the southwest of the country, Kaohsiung is the most rapidly developing urban center of Taiwan. With an area of 2,946  km2, it has a large natural harbor, with the entrance in recent years being expanded, rock-excavated, and dredged.

 

The Port of Kaohsiung is the largest harbor in Taiwan, handling approximately 10 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) worth of cargo in 2007.The port is located in southern Taiwan, adjacent to Kaohsiung City, surrounded by the city districts of Gushan, Yancheng, Lingya, Cianjhen, Siaogang, and Cijin. It is operated by Taiwan International Ports Corporation, the Taiwan's only state-owned harbor management company.
